Does Flea and Tick Shampoo Really Works?
Once you have discovered that your pet has got those tiny insects clinging on their bodies, what would be your first resort? Of course, it would probably be a flea removal shampoo. But are they really effective on the issue and good for the dog’s coat? We shall find out here.
First of all, you need to be sure of the problem before trying out any treatment on your pooch. For flea test, take out a flea comb and then comb through the fur – if you find out fleas, then you know what you have to deal with. Along with the fleas, look out for flea eggs and dirt too which are the main carriers of the fleas.
Does Flea and Tick Shampoo Really Work?
When you look upon Flea Shampoos, go for the one which works on both the larger fleas as well as flea eggs/dirt. This will keep a check on the flea generation, and put a break on the flea growing cycle. Most of the flea shampoos only work on the adult fleas, making you repeat the same shampoo thing every week.
What is exactly a Flea shampoo?
This shampoo is not the usual dog shampoo, it’s a medicated shampoo that works on removing fleas and ticks.
How do they work?
All the flea shampoos come along with their dedicated instructions, so read them carefully. Apply a thick layer of the shampoo on your pooch’s skin, massage it behind the ear, near the chin portion, and entirely on their body. Make sure that it doesn’t get into their eyes. Leave the lather for a minimum of 10 minutes before washing it off.
There are flea shampoos which only deals with the adult fleas, though they are cheap – it didn’t impress me. I believe if you are trying to solve a problem, then it should be done in a way that you prevent the occurrence of it. Right?
Fleas comeback with the Flea eggs and dirt, and so a complete flea-removal is what your pooch needs. You can use a shampoo that comes with a conditioning to leave their fur soft and shining after the wash.
What would I recommend? – Go for a shampoo which works on both the Fleas and Ticks (at the root level). But, it should definitely be suitable on your pet’s skin, so double check the product with your vet.
Why should I consider a Flea Shampoo?
Number one reason is that shampoos give an instant result. It is the right choice to consider for controlling the flea at the earliest. Secondly, even if your pet doesn’t have fleas – you can still get them a flea bath once a month. This will ensure that your pet doesn’t ever get fleas on their fur.
They are gentle on the dog’s skin, and also chemically sound.
Also to add, flea shampoos are an effective solution for both the fleas and ticks. So, it’s pretty cool in all ways!
Things to be NOTED
This is more like a Disclaimer thing for all the pet owners. Things that you need to keep in mind:
- Flea shampoo doesn’t guarantee the removal of fleas. It’s not a permanent solution.
- It can be irritating on the eyes, so be careful while you are applying the Flea shampoo.
- Wash your pet’s fur in a way that there’s no residue left on their fur.
- It doesn’t remove all the fleas like the other spot-on treatments.
- Best considered for the pets who are already going through a flea control treatment.
- Test the shampoo on a small portion of their fur, in case they get an allergy.
So, these are the points that you need to keep in mind before you set out to use a Flea shampoo on your pooch. What else to say, go & get a Flea Shampoo for your buddy today!
